McGregor, 36, opened up in an exclusive interview with SunSport in December, although the UFC are predicting a 2025 return for the poster boy.

McGregor’s hopes of a late-year comeback were publicly dashed by UFC president and CEO Dana White earlier this month.

The 55-year-old told The New York Post: “Conor McGregor will fight next year, early 2025.

“He had so much free time. As far as hunger goes, he’s a very rich guy.

“We will find out. We’ll find out when he gets back.

“But he’s certainly one of the great superstars of the sport that has elevated the UFC throughout Europe and other parts of the world.

“He was a big star and a great partner for us.”

With more sides to his personality than an Octagon, the rise of Conor McGregor has been an engrossing watch.

McGregor, however, apparently hasn’t given up hope that his long-awaited showdown with Chandler will take place before the end of the year.

The UFC’s first two-division champion shared new sparring footage with his 46 million followers Instagram followers this week in an apparent bid to prove he’s ready to make a comeback.

His accompanying caption for the series of clips, in which he almost stopped his training partner, read: “First back back, off we go.”

McGregor and members of the UFC were locked in positive talks about a new contract before it was called off. summer confrontation with Chandler.

But the Dubliner, who has two fights left on his current contract, recently suggested that negotiations were on hold.

The former featherweight and lightweight champion told SunSport: “You know, the fight never happened.

“So it’s just about continuing the fight.”

Fan favorite McGregor has not graced the Octagon since breaking his left leg in his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier three years ago.
