“Compete for the National Championship every year”

The Oregon Ducks are in the midst of recruiting for the class of 2025. Currently ranked 13th overall and third in the Big Ten Conference, the Ducks have three five-stars and 10 four-stars committed to the upcoming graduating class of high school. The talent level of Oregon high school recruits is on the rise as last year Oregon only had one 5-star recruit.

More talent comes from greater recruiting efforts from coach Dan Lanning and crew. During Oregon’s bye week, Lanning was already caught on the fringes of high school programs looking for future Ducks to fill out the roster.

That commitment to recruits can be seen in the way committed players talk about the Oregon program. On3 Sports’ Chad Simmons caught up with 4-star recruit Ziyare Addison ahead of the Sumner High School game against Plant. The Florida native was dressed in green and yellow and had some glowing words to share about the Oregon program.

“I feel great about the Ducks,” Addison said. “They treated me like family. They’re still actively recruiting me like they don’t have me.”

Addison committed to the Ducks on June 7 of this year. He was also recruited by a litany of other schools, including Wisconsin, Southern California, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Stanford, Penn State, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Miami, Florida State, Clemson, Auburn, Alabama, UCLA, Georgia and Florida. others.

“I feel like it’s a perfect fit and I’m excited to play with Dante Moore, a former 5-star quarterback who has a heck of an arm. It’s just a great opportunity for me and my family. They will compete for a national championship every year and they check all my boxes. It feels like home,” Addison said.

According to 247Sports’ recruiting profile on Addison, “He primarily played tackle at the prep level, but his ceiling could ultimately be highest at one of the guard spots. Still, he’s athletic enough to guard the corner with improved technique. Gets out of position and is quick to initiate contact. He is frequently found in his body control and will seal running lanes with impressive base poise. He can be caught reaching and throwing in pass sets, but has the power to extend his arc when he gets his hands on a mission. He should be looked at as a potential multi-year starter at the Power Four level who can play multiple spots up front depending on how his body matures.”

Addison is currently ranked No. 274 on ESPN’s Top 300, a list made to distinguish the nation’s top 300 high school recruits.

Addison also had some things to say about Lanning. When asked to describe Oregon’s coach, Addison didn’t hesitate.

“Fiery. Smart. Intelligent. Hard-working,” Addison said. “If you just heard her story and where she got to where she is now and just lining up in the Big Ten, making the transition from the PAC-12 to Big Ten, he’s going to be one of the top coaches not even in the country for the foreseeable future, but maybe one of the greatest coaches of all time.”

Addison is offensive line coach A’lique Terry’s highest-rated commit currently for the class of 2025. Entering 2025, Oregon will lose preseason All-American selection and starting right tackle Ajani Cornelius. Starting left tackle Josh Conerly Jr. will enter his senior year in 2025. Oregon is expected to lose four starters on the offensive line after this year.

Currently, aside from Conerly Jr. and Cornelius, Oregon’s tackle prospects are all fairly young. So Addison may have a decent shot at getting playing time as a true freshman, dependent on transfers and competition in the outside trenches.
