Duke Basketball One-And-Done purchased from Houston

Last week, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported that Houston Rockets forward and former Duke basketball double-digit scorer AJ Griffin is “seriously considering a retirement from basketball.”

Charania’s report took another step forward Friday night, as the top insider relayed from his sources that “Rockets are giving up AJ Griffin via contract buyout as he expects to retire at age 21 after two NBA seasons “.

Later in the evening, ESPN’s Tim MacMahon added that Griffin is “considering whether to continue his career in the NBA.”

So now it seems people shouldn’t rule out the possibility of seeing him back on the field at some point down the road.

Griffin, the son of nine-year retired NBA journeyman wing and recently one-year Milwaukee Bucks head coach Adrian Griffin Sr., went 16th overall in the 2022 NBA Draft following his Duke basketball campaign. He averaged 7.5 points and 1.9 rebounds in 92 outings over two seasons with the Atlanta Hawks before being traded to the Rockets in late June.

As a Blue Devil, the chiseled perimeter weapon averaged 10.4 points and 3.9 rebounds while shooting 44.7 percent from downtown to help lead Mike Krzyzewski’s team to the 2022 Final Four and a overall record of 32-7.
