The mechanics union at Textron Aviation is voting on the final contract offer on Saturday

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – Update: Video shared by Textron Aviation workers at the Park City Arena shows detractors of the company’s bid throwing the contract to the floor of the arena during the reading of the company’s final offer.

Those in attendance said insurance and compensation were the two key sources of disapproval. As the machinists’ union bargaining team read the proposed changes, members grew louder and threw contracts to the arena floor.

“Some even made paper airplanes out of paper,” said one worker. “I have to say they were some of the best built paper airplanes I’ve ever seen.”

If workers vote against the contract, another vote will decide whether to strike.

Auto union workers at Textron Aviation are set to vote on a new contract Saturday at the Park City Arena.

The current contract, a four-year deal reached in September 2020, ends on Sunday, September 22.

The machinists union bargaining committee is recommending union members vote in favor of Textron’s final offer, released Thursday.

It offers a 26% pay rise over four years, including an 11% pay rise immediately if the contract is agreed.

Other points of the proposed deal include a lump sum of $3,000 each year and an annual longevity bonus starting at five years of service.

Machinists at Tuesday afternoon’s “Solidarity Rally” in downtown Wichita said negotiations with Textron have been ongoing since August. Their top concerns include better paid time off, better benefits for their families and livable wages.

If no deal is reached, the machinists have said they will go on strike.
