15-year-old killed, 2 others injured in rollover crash on I-70 in Blue Springs

BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. (KCTV) – One teen was killed and two were seriously injured in a crash on I-70 Saturday night, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

The crash happened around 8:46 pm on Sept. 21 as three teens in a 1995 Toyota Tacoma were driving west on I-70 in Blue Springs.

According to MSHP, the 17-year-old driving the Tacoma tried to “cut in on” a 2019 Lexus, driven by a 70-year-old Kansas City man. The two cars collided and the Tacoma overturned, ejecting all three teens—none of whom were wearing seatbelts.

The driver and his 19-year-old passenger were seriously injured and taken to an area hospital by paramedics. The third passenger, a 15-year-old boy, was declared dead at the scene by a Jackson County Battalion Chief. His identity has not been released.

The Blue Springs Police Department and Jackson County Fire and EMS assisted in the crash.
