Canadian Indian technician says ‘not at all satisfied’ with Rs 60 salary; netizens react

A video showing an Indian techie discussing her rent and salary in Toronto has gone viral, according to a ToI report. Shared by Instagram user Piyush Monga (@salaryscale), the video highlights the experiences of a woman with over 10 years of work experience who earns around $100,000 annually, which translates to around Rs 60.

In the video, the woman expressed her displeasure with her salary, stating “not at all” and describing it as “not that much considering the current economy.” She explained: “It’s not easy living in Toronto with that kind of money. It’s really bad.”

The post includes the caption: “Asked if she was happy with her salary, $95,000 not enough for Toronto? Well, this is a personal interpretation. I guess $95,000 is enough for one person, but our in-house test leader has a different perspective.”

When asked by the interviewer about the adequacy of her salary given the cost of living in Toronto, she noted that prices have risen significantly. “A stick of butter was $4, now it’s $8. So inflation is very real,” she said. She contrasted this with the situation in India, saying, “It doesn’t hit you like that in India.” She revealed that she rents a single room for $1,600, which is about 99,000 lei.

The video garnered various responses from viewers. One user wrote: “Most of these people have been coming here for 5 years and say it’s hard…our parents have been here for 30 years, worked 5 hours in the 80’s, 6.85 in the 90’s, finally now they are settled. In short, it’s a journey…don’t expect it to be scheduled in 5 years.” Another commented: “95k should be enough for one person! A lot of people make less than that in Toronto.” A third user added: “Purchasing power matters, 30 lakh in India could be equivalent to 125 thousand in US.”

Another user offered a different perspective, stating, “I realize some people might have a lot of responsibilities. Maybe he has loans to repay. Stop judging based on half stories.”
