Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin lays foundation stone for new Tata Motors unit in Ranipet – Auto News

The new Tata Motors facility in Ranipet, Tamil Nadu has the potential to generate employment for up to 5,000 people.

Tata Motors has taken another significant step into the global automotive world with the groundbreaking ceremony of its future world-class manufacturing plant at Panapakkam in Ranipet district, Tamil Nadu. This manufacturing facility will be used for next-generation vehicles for Tata Motors and JLR, which will serve both the Indian and international markets.

The foundation stone of this facility was laid by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin in the presence of N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons & Tata Motors. Earlier, the company signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Tamil Nadu government, under which the homegrown automaker will invest Rs 9,000 crore in this greenfield manufacturing facility.

The facility was designed for an annual production capacity of over 250,000 vehicles. Production will start gradually and will grow progressively to reach this capacity in the next 5-7 years. Tata claims that this advanced, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility has the potential to create over 5,000 employment opportunities (direct and indirect)

Speaking on the occasion, N Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons said, “We are excited to make Panapakkam the home of our next generation cars and SUVs, including electric and luxury vehicles. Tamil Nadu is a leading industrial state with progressive policies and an established automotive hub with skilled and talented workforce.

Through this facility, Tata Motors also intends to help build future-ready skills among the local communities in and around the plant. In addition, the plant will be guided by the principles of sustainability and will use 100% renewable energy to run operations.

Earlier in April this year, it was reported that Tata Motors, the parent company of Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), plans to locally manufacture luxury vehicles under British brands in India. This would bring down the cost of purchasing Jaguar and Land Rover cars in the country, which are currently only available as fully imported CBUs. In addition, the factory will be guided by the principles of sustainability and will use 100% renewable energy for its operational operations.
