Moorhead man charged with theft at Detroit Lakes Walmart – Detroit Lakes Tribune

DETROIT LAKES — Waldern Roger Lacroix, 49, of Moorhead, was charged in Becker District Court with theft.

According to court records, on the morning of Dec. 3, 2023, asset protection video from the Detroit Lakes Walmart showed Lacroix loading a cart with various items from around the store, including multiple inner tubes, camping items, knives, pods laundry, a baby. monitor, speakers and other car accessories, toys, Christmas decorations, batteries and a perfume gift set.

Lacroix then pushed the cart into the cosmetics section before putting the cart through the fire door. He ran out the door, losing a surveillance camera in the process, and parked the cart in row 11 of the parking lot.

He then ran across the parking lot to the vehicle he arrived in, parked in row two, where two other people, who were also charged, were loading other merchandise into the vehicle.

They then drove up to row 11 and the three of them loaded the goods from the cart that Lacroix had pushed through the fire door before leaving. The perfume gift set was left behind in the trunk of a nearby vehicle and was recovered along with the dropped camera. The unpaid merchandise taken by Lacroix was valued at $1,467.

His next court appearance is set for October 28, 2024, before District Court Judge Michelle W. Lawson.

A Fargo man has been convicted of felony domestic assault near Detroit Lakes

Todd Anthony Belland Jr., 34, of Fargo, was convicted in Becker County District Court of felony domestic assault.

A second charge of domestic assault and a charge of first-degree damage to property were dropped in a plea agreement.

According to court records, on the evening of March 26, Becker County deputies responded to a report of an active assault at a location on Old Pit Road in Detroit Lakes.

Upon arrival, an officer heard a woman screaming, then a man screaming and then broken glass. The woman’s voice came from a parked vehicle, which had broken windows. The officer saw Belland leave and arrested him.

Belland said he got into an argument with his girlfriend in the trailer and pushed her out of the trailer “before it got any worse.”

He stated that she threatened to damage his brother’s vehicle and that he got into her vehicle to leave but returned. He said he then turned off her tail light and smashed the vehicle’s windows with a golf club and wooden brick while she was in it. He admitted to having a meth pipe in his possession.

A deputy spoke with the woman in her vehicle. She was shaken and cried and said that Belland is her lover and he is angry with her and accuses her of cheating. She said he slapped her twice in the face and damaged her vehicle while she was in it.

On July 23, District Judge Gretchen Thilmony sentenced him to 18 months in prison in St. Cloud, I stayed five years.

He was ordered to serve 69 days in jail, with credit for 69 days served, and was fined $500 plus $160 in court fees.

He was ordered not to drink or use drugs and to undergo a comprehensive evaluation, a domestic abuse evaluation and a diagnostic evaluation and to follow all recommendations, including aftercare. He was put on probation for five years.

He is now charged with violating his probation, and a probation violation hearing is set for Nov. 25.
