Friends support man recovering from car accident

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – For those who have known Matt Redd for decades, they say there’s a lot to like about him.

Redd was the other man she was in the car with Clint Keown when they got into an accident. He is still in hospital recovering from serious injuries.

“You could tell from the beginning, his work ethic was something that really stood out to him,” former Harrison football coach Jason Watkins said.

“A lot of people say, ‘Yeah, they were great athletes and great competitors,’ but at the core they’re great people; and I don’t want people to miss that,” said Bosse High School Principal Aaron Huff.

A Facebook post by Matt’s family says he is working to recover from many things, including severe brain damage, skull fractures and a punctured lung.

His friends say that despite all this, they see small signs of improvement every day that make them optimistic about the future.

They are not alone either. It is said that friends came from all over the area, and from all over the country, to be with him.

“It’s the number of lives that Matt has touched over the years,” Watkins said. “He’s been a tremendous asset to so many people and I think now we’re seeing that support and that love come back for him.”

It is said that Matt was an exceptional person, someone who they truly say would “give the shirt off your back”.

His friends say his character inspired such a response from the community. They hope people take this time of tragedy and reflect on who Matt and Clint are and how we can be more like them.

“Yeah, support Matt and this is Clint, we want to support their families; but it’s time to really think about who we are and who we are as people and really start thinking about where we want to be in the future,” Huff said. “How do we want to support each other?”

Matt’s friends and family are working to raise money to help his family pay their medical bills.
