Creighton volleyball no. 6 opens Big East play with sweep of Providence

Creighton Volleyball No. 6 picked up where it left off in Big East play, defeating Providence 25-10, 25-12, 25-13 on Friday in the league opener for both teams.

Destiny Ndam-Simpson had nine kills and Ava Martin added eight for the Bluejays (10-2, 1-0), who have won 16 straight against Big East opponents.

Creighton set the tone early with Maddy Bilinovic serving up a 6-0 run early in the first set. The Jays hit .417 in the opening set, with Kendra Wait posting 10 assists, three digs, a block and an ace.

The Friars scored the first three points of the second set, but CU responded with a 10-0 run with Sydney Breissinger at the service line. Elise Goetzinger had three blocks during that run and led by at least five points the rest of the set.

Creighton opened the third set with a 4-0 run, getting a pair of kills from Wait in that period. The lead eventually grew to 16-6 on a kill by Ava Martin and CU pulled away from them. Six Jays had multiple kills in the final set.
