Hong Kong taxi driver injured, passenger unharmed as taxi plunges into flooded sinkhole

A Hong Kong taxi driver was injured while his passenger escaped unharmed after a taxi sink in a flooded sinkhole caused by a burst water pipe along a road in Cheung Sha Wan.

The accident happened shortly after midnight at 880 Lai Chi Kok Road, with a section of the route still closed and a number of bus services affected since Sunday morning.

The police learned about the incident around 12:30 p.m. The taxi was traveling along the road when it partially sank into the flooded sinkhole caused by the broken pipe.

The 59-year-old driver and his 47-year-old passenger were able to escape from the vehicle when it plunged into the water, police said.

The force said the driver, a man surnamed Siu, reported feeling unwell and was sent to the nearby Caritas Medical Centre, while the passenger surnamed Chan was unharmed.
