TwitchCon Updates: Improved Broadcasting, Transparent Warnings, and Shared Chat

TwitchCon is going on in San Diego as we speak, and as usual the platform’s leadership team took to the stage to discuss the developments taking place on the site. In a segment talking about the future of the platform, Twitch’s Dan Clancy revealed what’s to come, including improved broadcast resolutions, transparent enforcement, and mobile app improvements.

All was revealed at TwitchCon San Diego

The Twitch team revealed that violations will become more transparent in the future, with users receiving more information about strikes and enforcement actions. It will begin with chat-based offenses, with Twitch providing snippets of comments that led to enforcement action being taken against a user.

Also, the strikes will continue to be made temporary. Depending on the severity of the warning in question, it will expire after a certain period as per the latest update. This means that strikes won’t last forever against an account like they do now.

In terms of increasing streaming, Twitch will begin offering “Enhanced Broadcast,” which will allow streamers to broadcast their content at 1440p resolution. It will be rolled out region by region over the next year.

Streamers will also be able to stream both horizontally and vertically in the coming months.

On the subject of streaming changes, Twitch is making things more collaborative, launching “Shared Chat” as a way to merge communities. When streamers turn on the Stream Together mechanism, their respective chats will be connected, working together as one.

Since 70% of new viewers come to Twitch via the mobile app, the team is constantly working to improve the functionality of the platform.

With other improvements to the Creator Clubs and Guild features, Twitch is moving in the right direction, but there is still a lot of work to be done if the platform is to become profitable and consistent.
