Is there anything football fans hate more than the international break? The widely despised break in domestic leagues is finally over and we can once again focus on the best league in the world.

The 2024–25 Premier League season was as competitive as it has been in recent years. Manchester City are not the clear favorites for the first time in a while, as Arsenal and Liverpool have a good chance of taking the crown.

Chelsea and Aston Villa will look to keep their attacking distance throughout the season, but will likely fall behind at some point. Either way, they will be more than happy with a top-four finish this season.

The beauty of the Premier League is that there are clashes between the Big Six teams almost every two weeks. This time it’s Liverpool and Chelsea who will fight for the match of the week on Sunday, but there are also other exciting match-ups worth spending time on.

Liverpool vs. Chelsea: Under 3.5 goals -130

This season, the best team in the Premier League will face the best player. The big question ahead of this massive clash will be whether Cole Palmer will be able to work his magic against the best defense in Europe.

Liverpool under new manager Arne Slot are a more cautious team. They are happier maintaining a one-goal lead than they were under Jurgen Klopp. They allow less space at the back and as a result have conceded just two goals in seven league games.

So far this season, there have been no more than three goals scored in any Liverpool match. Chelsea have enough talent to create some great scoring opportunities, but apart from Palmer they struggle to finish. Nicolas Jackson is one of the worst scorers among strikers and midfielders. Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo almost never score goals. This makes Chelsea a team completely dependent on Palmer’s production.

Chelsea wingers Noni Madueke and Jadon Sancho need to be in top form for the London side to have a chance. They haven’t proven enough to trust such an important match.

It’s hard to imagine Chelsea scoring more than one goal at Anfield, meaning this is potentially a low-scoring match.

Wolves vs Manchester City: Man City -1.5 -130

Not only are Wolves bottom of the table with just one point from seven games, but they also sit last in almost every important metric.

In seven games, they have scored just 6.6 expected goals while allowing 14 expected goals. As a result, they conceded as many as three goals per match. Chelsea scored them six and Brentford five, and their defensive approach was absolutely miserable.

Manager Gary O’Neil is hanging on to his job by a thread. The chemistry between him and the Portugal-dominated team was never ideal. In his first season, he finished the league in 14th place. The team was unable to replace deceased stars such as Pedro Neto, Max Kilman, Matheus Nunes and Ruben Neves. The squad is depleted and not even close to the level of the last five years.

Now they will face Man City, which has fallen into a rut. In the last three games, they scored five points and scored five goals. Without Rodri, they will probably still not be as dominant and will be hoping that they can get into the winter transfer window in a good place to sign a successor.

Fortunately for them, they have a very favorable matchup this week. Kevin De Bruyne should return from his absence and Man City should easily find the back of the net against Wanderers.

Manchester United vs. Brentford: Double Chance: Draw or Brentford +115

Against all odds, Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag still holds on to his job. Man Utd have won just one of their last eight Premier League and Europa League matches and have looked miserable in most of them. They had failed to score in their last three English league games and were not particularly close to achieving that goal.

Somehow, Ten Hag continues to preach patience and claims that the team is improving week by week. It’s certainly difficult to tell based on on-field performances and results.

Any team with discipline and organization can cause problems for United. Brentford, under Thomas Frank, is one such team. They are well coached and very difficult to play against. They are physical, intense and play with a sense of purpose.

One of Manchester United’s biggest weaknesses is playing from the back. They are fighting the press and making too many mistakes. Brentford are an excellent pressing team who don’t mind giving up possession of the ball and letting their opponents beat themselves. One of Ten Haga’s worst Manchester defeats came against Brentford in the 2022-23 season, when the Bees thrashed United 4-0.

We can’t expect the same result, but it’s hard to pick United against any solid team at the moment. Don’t be surprised if this is Ten Hag’s last match in charge.
