A man has been convicted of manslaughter in a crash in Tamworth.

Murat Karakas (51) was found guilty of causing the death of motorcyclist Richard Radbourne (47) in a crash on Comberford Road on March 3.

Staffordshire Police said he left his home in Gillway, Tamworth, shortly before 10pm GMT when he learned his son’s car was being followed by a motorcycle at high speed.

After finding the scene of the chase, Karakas stopped his Audi Q3 on the wrong side of Comberford Road before an accident involving his car and motorcycle occurred.

Radbourne was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Friday, after a three-week trial, a jury found Karakas guilty of manslaughter at Stafford Crown Court.

Following the sentencing, Radbourne’s partner Haley stated that everyone who knew him “loved him very much” and “missed him very much”.

“I’m still struggling without him here. “I just hope that the sadness will subside with time,” she said.

Radbourne’s father Kevin said: “It is very difficult to come to terms with the loss of our son Richard Radbourne in such a senseless and tragic way at such a young age.”

Det Insp Lisa Holland, from Staffordshire Police’s Major Investigation Team, said it was a complex case involving a large number of officers.

“Our thoughts are with Richard’s family and friends,” she added.

Karakas will be sentenced at Stafford Crown Court at a later date.
