The deeper meaning behind Kate Middleton’s fern earrings for Southport’s look

Welcome back, princess.

On Thursday, Kate Middleton made her first public appearance since finishing chemotherapy.

The Princess of Wales and her husband, Prince William, visited Southport, England, where over the summer three young girls died in a stabbing attack at a Taylor Swift-inspired dance class.

The royal couple met with rescuers and the parents of the three young victims.

For the surprise outing, the 42-year-old royal wore gold Catherine Zoraida fern earrings ($220).

According to the brand, the fern is “a symbol of strength, resilience and new beginnings,” making it a particularly fitting choice for the occasion.

Made of reclaimed 18-karat gold, drop earrings have been a staple in the princess wardrobe for years.

Middleton most recently wore them on May 22 at the Chelsea Flower Show in London.

As for the rest of her outfit, Middleton followed the burgundy fall trend in a polka-dot Whistles shirt dress.

She wore the whole look under a brown double-breasted coat from one of her favorite brands, Alexander McQueen.

Middleton opted for suede accents, styling it with one of her beloved Emmy London Natasha clutches ($495) – a model she has in 13 different colors! — and Gianvito Rossi heels.

Meanwhile, Prince William communicated with his wife, choosing a gray suit and a burgundy sweater.

“We continue to support everyone in Southport,” Middleton wrote on Instagram.

“Today’s meeting with the community was a powerful reminder of how important it is to support each other in the face of an unimaginable tragedy. You will remain in our thoughts and prayers.”
