As a cookbook lover, I read them like novels and have an entire shelf dedicated to them Just cookbooks. So when I saw that Dolly Parton – the queen of country – and her sister Rachel had just published their cookbook Good looking cooking I knew that had have it. While I’m excited to dive into this, considering how often I buy new cookbooks, I’ll be the first to admit that cooking the entire book is almost impossible. The Parton sisters understand this too, which is probably why they’ve partnered with Home Chef to bring me some recipes inspired by their book right to my door.

This limited-edition partnership launched in late September and will run until mid-October. Home Chef sent me a few meals to test out for myself, and as soon as the box arrived, I rushed to the kitchen to see the recipes in action. I love Dolly, so I was especially excited to dive into and learn about these newly introduced seasonal treats.

Collaboration costs the same as standard Home Chef plans – there are no additional costs. The smallest plan is three meals for two people per week and starts at $41.96. There are regular offers and promotions for first-time subscribers that significantly reduce the price.

My honest review of Dolly Parton’s home chef collaboration

Let me start off by saying that I was born in Florida and raised in North Carolina, so I’m very familiar with Southern home cooking. I received boxes of rustic chicken and noodles and fried chicken with sauce. They each brought everything I needed to prepare each meal, including salt, pepper and oil! I’ve tried several home cooking-based services and have been amazed time and time again at how practical and descriptive Home Chef is. But now, to the point of the review, how did each of them fare?

Rustic chicken and noodles

The card for this soup said it would take 45 to 55 minutes, and in terms of skill level, it was one of the easier recipes. I laid out the ingredients and started by preparing the celery, carrots and other herbs. The instructions below were clear (especially with the photos) and each step seemed smooth. In the end, this recipe took me and my friend less than 45 minutes (I’m an overachiever). devoured this soup. It was hearty but not heavy and just felt like warm food. And the broth? I could happily sip this all day long – it was liquid gold! Who knew Dolly’s magic extended to soup?

Fried chicken and sauce

The recipe card for fried chicken with sauce was in the same format as the soup, took 50 to 60 minutes to prepare, and was easy in difficulty. I started by making mashed potatoes. I won’t lie, I haven’t made a lot of mashed potatoes in my life, so I was a little nervous about the whole process, but I really felt like Home Chef was there for me in spirit, holding my hand with very descriptive directions and photos that made the process so smooth. as possible.

The directions below included adding the chicken to the marinade and optionally leaving it overnight for even more flavor. I appreciated this option, but I had a mission for dinner and I managed to do it in one sitting. After mashing all the potatoes and frying the chicken, I was left with a visually STUNNING meal and a sense of accomplishment after completing a satisfying task.

Again, this recipe was DELICIOUS. The chicken was beautifully fried until golden brown (I like to think it was all me, but it was actually partly thanks to the Home Chef’s help), and the mashed potatoes were fluffy with a few bits in them (just the way I like it).

Verdict: I’m really amazed that these meals are only available for a limited time. Both dishes were so easy to make and so delicious that I will save the recipe cards so I can incorporate them into my weekly meals more often. These meals, among many others, are only available to order until October 18 (only one week left!), so if I were you, I’d get your order ASAP.
