Arkansas man pleads guilty in connection with fatal crash involving pregnant woman at Assumption Parish

ASSUMPTION PARISH, LA (WAFB) – An Arkansas man has pleaded guilty in connection with a crash that killed a pregnant woman and her unborn child.

According to District Attorney Ricky Babin’s office, on Monday, Oct. 7, Kendal Dollar, 39, of Strong, Ark. He pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter and third-degree feticide.

The charges stemmed from an accident that occurred on August 1, 2023, on LA 308 near LA 1011 in Assumption Parish.

According to officials, a pregnant woman, identified as 23-year-old Tia Gorrell of Houma, and her unborn child were killed in the crash.

According to officials, Kendall’s Jeep Wrangler crossed the center line, struck the side of a Ram 2500 towing a camper, and then struck Gorell’s Toyota Corolla.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said blood tests showed amphetamine and methamphetamine in Dollar’s blood at the time of the crash.

As part of the plea agreement, officials said Dollar was sentenced to 20 years in the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
