Following the Tire Nichols verdict, two former officers file motions for acquittal

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Tadarrius Bean and Justin Smith, two of three former Memphis police officers found guilty this month on federal charges in the death of Tire Nichols, entered not guilty pleas Friday.

On October 3, Bean was found guilty of obstruction but not guilty of three other charges against him.

The verdicts were announced in the federal Tire Nichols trial

Smith also was found guilty of the obstruction of justice charge, but was not guilty of the other three charges.

“There is absolutely no evidence to support your individual findings.
Bean guilty of obstruction of justice,” said the motion filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Tennessee.
