HINKLEY, Ohio (WOIO) – First responders had to “think outside the box” to save a horse trapped in a ditch on a trail.

The Hinkley Ohio Firefighters Association and the Hinkley Police Department were called to the ditch just before noon on Oct. 11, HOFA said.

HOFA reported that the ditch was located near the Cleveland Metroparks Hinkley Reservation horse trail on State Road.

“When our on-duty crew arrived on scene, they realized that additional resources were needed as the horse was in quite a difficult situation,” HOFA said.

According to HOFA, the Medina County All Hazards team, which specializes in technical rescues in the area, was dispatched to the scene.

HOFA stated that the rescue mission became a joint operation with the following teams participating:

Hinkley Police Department
Medina County All Hazards Team
vet team
horse trainers

The “long process” was a success as the horse was safely rescued after suffering minimal injuries, HOFA confirmed.

“We would like to thank everyone involved,” HOFA said. “It’s an example that there is no such thing as regular conversation and we need to think outside the box from time to time.”
