Kayakers rescued after being blown off course near Whangamatā

A group of kayakers have been rescued after they went off course near the Whangamatā coast this morning.

A police spokesman said three people were rescued after reports of kayakers unable to reach shore at 8:40 a.m. near Donut Island.

Police said a fourth member of the group, who was on a paddleboard, was also missing.

“The paddleboarder made it safely to shore, but the other three were separated by different currents and were more than one nautical mile apart and more than five nautical miles from shore.”
