Odisha woman raped and abandoned in Sarai Kale Khan; Rescued by an Indian Navy officer

Delhi: A 34-year-old woman was allegedly sexually assaulted and left on a road in Sarai Kale Khan in southeast Delhi. According to reports, the incident came to light early Friday morning when an Indian Navy officer spotted a woman walking on the road in bloody clothes at around 3.20 am and alerted the police. A team from the local police station reached the spot and found the woman wearing a torn kurti and a piece of cloth around her lower body.

Details about the victim

According to a report by the Los Angeles Times, police immediately took the woman to the hospital, where doctors confirmed that she was bleeding from her genital area, raising suspicions that the assault had occurred elsewhere, after which she was abandoned in Sarai Kale Khan. Preliminary investigation revealed that the woman is an Odisha graduate who moved to Delhi a year ago after completing her nursing course. Her parents reported her missing after she left their home in Odisha and later learned that she was in Delhi.

Shocking details came to light during the investigation

Two months ago, the woman’s parents went to Delhi and tried to convince her to return home, but she refused. The family then returned to Odisha. According to reports, the woman lost her phone about a month ago and has not contacted her family since then. She lived in south Delhi but ran out of money, forcing her to sleep on the streets. According to police, surveillance footage showed her sleeping near the ATM for two days.

Victim undergoing treatment

The woman, who is currently under medical care, is unable to provide the police with clear details about the attackers. The police officer mentioned that she had difficulty remembering how she lost her phone or whether it had been stolen, making it difficult for her to connect the events leading up to the assault.

Authorities are currently reviewing CCTV footage from surrounding areas to understand how the woman ended up in Sarai Kale Khan. Police also contacted the woman’s brother, who is a doctor, to help gather additional information. The investigation is ongoing and police are working to identify the perpetrators.
