The Hillsborough River crest is causing flooding in the Zephyrhills area

ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. — On Friday, Pasco Fire Rescue conducted more than 150 flood rescues across the county.

Officials say heavy rains from Hurricane Milton and the Hillsborough River crest are flooding neighborhoods.

ABC Action News visited the Silver Oaks branch in Zephyrhills, where neighbors are packing their valuables and other belongings in case they need to evacuate.

“We’ve never seen anything like this before, like I said, in 1999 we had half of what you see there, but it got close to people’s homes, but nothing like this,” Dan Burgess Sr. said.

Dan Burgess Sr. has lived in the area for at least 30 years. He said the golf course and several streets in the area were flooded.

“We will wait and see, but we are preparing. We’re getting ready. “My wife has put some stuff higher up and we’ll wait and see because I think it’s going to take another day to get to Nick,” Burgess said.

Nick Burgess grew up in the neighborhood with his parents and bought the house in 2020.

“It’s unbelievable when you see people being dragged out of their homes in boats. It’s just unbelievable,” he said.

“Yesterday the water just started rising, slowly and slowly. Yesterday it was rising a lot, at a faster pace, to the point that people didn’t have time to prepare,” he added.

The Pasco Fire Department said it is responding to calls as they receive them. Crews also conducted a rescue at Elfers in New Port Richey.
