A fire broke out on a lighter vessel loaded with LPG, anchored in the Kutubdia anchorage area of ​​Chattogram Port, this morning (October 13).

The incident took place at Kaiyarbil point in Kutubdia in Cox’s Bazar.

On Sunday morning, the coast guard and navy rescued 31 of the ship’s crew.

No casualties were reported from the incident, confirmed Lieutenant Officer Shakib Mehbub of the Eastern Coast Guard Zone.

On receiving the information, the coast guard and navy members rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control. Shakib said the ship’s crew first jumped into the sea from where they were later rescued.

Asked about the incident, Coast Guard Lieutenant Commander Khondker Munif Taukira’s media officer said: “Flames engulfed the ship suddenly late at night. “Upon receiving the information, the ship, a tug and four Coast Guard speedboats began to bring the fire under control.”

“Members of the Navy and the Port Fire Department are also working with the Coast Guard to bring the fire under control. On Sunday morning, 31 crew members were rescued alive. The amount of losses cannot be immediately estimated, Taukir added.
