Sky News understands that a A £1 billion investment in the UK by the port operator DP World will go ahead as planned after frantic efforts by ministers and diplomats to repair relations after a spat with a Dubai-owned multinational that threatened to overshadow a key investment summit.

On Friday, Sky News revealed that the planned investment was under review and that DP World chairman Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem had canceled plans to attend the summit following criticism from ministers of the P&O Ferries subsidiary.

on Wednesday, Transport Secretary Louise Haig described P&O Ferries, which dismissed 800 seafarers in March 2022, as a “rogue operator” and called for a consumer boycott.

But then Downing Street distanced the Prime Minister from the Minister’s comments, the investment will now continue and Sky News also understands that Sir Keir Starmer has spoken to his Transport Secretary and come to terms.
