The Browns are off to their worst start in the NFL in a decade

The Cleveland Browns lost to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday afternoon, 20-16, dropping to 1-5 and remaining near the bottom of the AFC North and AFC standings.

There was, again, a complete lack of offense in this story. The only touchdown on Sunday was the result of a blocked return to the basket just before halftime.

It was also the sixth time in six games that they failed to score 20 points in a single season opener. If it seems wrong, it’s because it is wrong. So bad that they are the first team in a decade to start the season with six straight games with fewer than 20 points.

One touchdown on 29 drives is also stunning. When the Browns have the ball, everything looks like a fight.

We have struggled with injuries this season, with superstar defender Nick Chubb still on the bench and also having some issues up front. They overlapped at different times.

The biggest problem, however, remains the play of quarterback Deshaun Watson. By almost objective measures, he was one of the worst quarterbacks in the NFL and showed almost no signs of improvement.

On Sunday, he scored 16 of 23 points for just 168 yards and zero touchdowns. He missed open passes, had several turnover-worthy plays, and just looked completely lost on almost every pass.

He’s starting to trend towards being unplayable, but the coaching staff has shown no desire to bench him. As long as they are bound by the contract, they may persistently try to see if they can salvage anything.
