Missing hikers rescued from Bear Head State Park in northern Minnesota

Two hikers were rescued from Bear Head State Park after they became lost in a remote area in northern Minnesota on Saturday.

What we know

St. County Sheriff’s Office Louis responded to a 911 call at 6:11 p.m. from a hiker asking for help getting out of the woods.

Deputies say they were unable to locate the hikers due to poor cell phone service.

St. County Emergency Department Louis assisted with the search and used GPS coordinates from the original 911 call to determine the caller’s location. After a while, the tourists called back and were told to stay where they were.

Ultimately, the tourists were found using a drone between the towns of Tower and Ely.

What else?

None of the tourists needed medical assistance. They were both visiting the area and were not familiar with the park area.
