Cleveland man guilty of murder, unrelated to Bay Village assault charge

BAY VILLAGE, Ohio (WOIO) – A 22-year-old Cleveland man was found guilty of murder Friday after his 2023 arrest in Bay Village on an unrelated assault charge.

According to a Facebook post by Bay Village Police, Ledon Howard III was arrested on the basketball court at a Bay Village park after numerous 911 calls indicated an argument in Reese Park led to shots fired on July 16, 2023.

BVPD said on-scene investigation and evidence collection led officers to arrest Howard, of Cleveland, as a suspect.

According to BVPD, a Cuyahoga County grand jury indicted him on Aug. 7, 2023, on a count of felonious assault with a firearm specification and a forfeiture charge in connection with the Bay Village incident.

Howard was in custody at the Cuyahoga County Jail on an unrelated murder charge, BVPD confirmed, and was arraigned on Aug. 24, 2023, on a murder charge that occurred on July 9, 2023.

Howard was found guilty Friday of both the Cleveland murder and the Bay Village felonious assault with a specific charge of using a firearm in a prohibited area or park, according to Bay Village police.

Court records show Howard will be sentenced on November 4 at 9 a.m. at the Justice Center.
