Nearly 10 Million Pounds of Ready-to-Eat Chicken Recalls Due to Listeria

An Oklahoma-based manufacturer of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products has recalled nearly 10 million pounds of product, marking the second major food safety-related meat recall in three months.

BrucePac, based in Durant, Oklahoma, confirmed that the recalled products tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes, a bacterium that can cause serious infections, according to an announcement this week from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service. in some people.

The items were produced from June 19 to October 8 and shipped to restaurants, distributors and grocery stores nationwide, including HEB, Trader Joe’s, Albertsons, Aldi, Kroger, Hy-Vee and Coborn’s. The ready-to-eat chicken could be frozen for future consumption.

HEB products include: HEB Chicken, Broccoli and Rice Casserole and HEB Texas Ranch Style Chicken.

At Trader Joe’s, the recalled products include: Trader Joe’s Lemon Chicken and Arugula Salad, Trader Joe’s Tarragon Chicken Salad Wrap, and Trader Joe’s Turkey Club Wrap.

Fresh Express, which uses BrucePac chicken in its ready-to-eat salads, distributes the product to Albertsons, Kroger, Aldi, Kroger, Hy-Vee and Coborn’s brands, and the recalled products include: Fresh Express Gourmet Cafe Salads Chicken Caesar (6, 3 oz), Fresh Express Gourmet Cafe Santa Fe Style Salads (6.3 oz), Fresh Express Little Salad Bar Santa Fe Style (6.3 oz), Fresh Express Marketside Chicken Caesar Salad (6.25 oz) , Fresh Express Marketside Santa Fe Salad with Chicken (6.35 oz), Fresh Express Marketside Caesar Salad with Chicken (12 oz), Fresh Express Marketside Southwest Style Caesar Salad with Chicken (11.75 oz), and Fresh Express Marketside Caesar Salad with Chicken (11.75 oz) Fresh Express Little Salad Bar Chicken (6.3 oz).

No illnesses have been reported so far.

The contamination was discovered after the Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service conducted routine testing of ready-to-eat poultry products manufactured by BrucePac.

In late July, Sarasota, Florida-based Boar’s Head meat company he reminded 7 million pounds of products, from ham to bologna to sausage, due to a listeria outbreak that killed 10 people and sent dozens more to hospitals. It was the worst case of listeria contamination in over a decade.
