More than 10 people have been trapped in a Colorado gold mine following equipment failure, according to law enforcement.

The Teller County Sheriff’s Office said the mine did not collapse and the Colorado Springs Fire Department has crews rescuing trapped miners.

Several “heavy rescue” units are on the scene, CSFD said.

According to The Denver Post, eleven people have been rescued so far.

Mollie Kathleen’s Mine

The miners are stuck in the Mollie Kathleen mine, a tourist destination where visitors can go down to a depth of 300 meters.

Visitors can take an hour-long tour of the underground mine and see “gold veins in their natural state,” he says my website.

Colorado Governor Jared Polis responds

Gov. Jared Polis said on his X account that he has spoken to county commissioners and the sheriff’s office and is helping with rescue efforts.

“We will do everything we can to help the county ensure the situation is resolved quickly and safely,” Polis said.
