In 2024 alone, 35 yellow-bellied sea snakes were discovered on various beaches in South Africa. Statistics further indicate that the survival rate of discovered snakes is only 20%.

The Jerzy Herold reported that Theuns Blom came across a sea snake while walking along the beach in the Dana Bay area.

Blom then sought help from Heinrich Ninaber, known among the locals as the snake catcher.

Ninaber said they were lucky that the seabird had not yet attacked the snake and that it was still in shallow water between the rocks.

The snake was then successfully captured.

The curator of herpetology at Bayworld in Gqeberha, Dr. Werner Conradie, gave Ninaber advice on how to care for the snake until it is ready to be released back into the ocean.

Conradie further reported that the snake is highly poisonous
