Effects of Hurricane Milton in Jacksonville

While victims of Hurricane Milton continue to recover from the devastation, life in Northeast Florida is mostly back to normal.

Evacuation orders have been lifted in both Nassau and St. Counties. Johns, and Duval County did not require such measures. Flooding, downed trees and damaged homes were reported, but the area escaped the storm’s severity just two weeks after Hurricane Helene.

Milton made landfall around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday as a Category 3 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 120 mph near Siesta Key in Sarasota County, according to the Governor’s Office. The storm moved quickly through Central Florida overnight, causing significant flooding and damaging winds near its path.
