Log truck driver rescued after crash on Highway 56

Oct. 11 – The driver of a logging truck was injured after it crashed into the Bull River on Highway 56 in Sanders County, six miles south of the Lincoln County line, late Wednesday morning.

Multiple rescuers and others tried to get the man out of the truck when it went off the road. The truck, which had Sanders County license plates, lost its load of logs and came to rest on them, keeping the vehicle largely out of the water.

The man driving the truck was trapped in the truck’s cab for more than an hour before he was rescued and taken to Cabinet Peaks Medical Center.

The truck was traveling north on Highway 56 when it skidded and went off the left side of the road. It flew over the shore and stopped on the roof. A load of logs landed in the river.

A Sanders County Sheriff’s Office deputy said the man was conscious and talking while still in the truck.

Those responding and assisting at the scene included the Noxon Rural Fire Department, Troy Volunteer Ambulance, Bull Lake Fire Department, Montana Department of Transportation and Big Sky Lumber.
