Woman rescued after her leg got stuck in a gap in the platform at Bugis MRT station

SINGAPORE: A woman was taken to hospital after she fell at Bugis MRT station and got her leg stuck in a gap in the platform.

A video circulating on social media of the incident that took place on Tuesday (October 8) shows a woman sitting between the train and the platform.

It appears that her left leg, below the knee, is stuck in the crack. It’s obvious that several people are taking care of her.

Responding to queries from The Straits Times, SMRT Trains president Lam Sheau Kai said the incident occurred after a female passenger lost her balance around 7:30 p.m.

“For her safety, the emergency button on the train was immediately activated. Our station staff along with other passengers quickly provided assistance and freed her leg,” Lam said.

The passenger was then taken by ambulance to the KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

SMRT has contacted the passenger, Lam said, adding that the operator hopes for her speedy recovery.

As a result of the incident, the train at Bugis station was delayed by approximately five minutes.

“We sincerely thank all commuters on the affected train for their patience and understanding while our staff provided assistance,” Lam said. – The Straits Times/ANN
