A jury finds a Yuba County man guilty of a sex crime against a 10-year-old girl

(FOX40.COM) – A jury found a Yuba County man guilty of attempted possession of child pornography after he solicited sex and nude photos from a 10-year-old girl on social media.

The case began with a 10-year-old girl whom law enforcement calls Jane, a nickname. According to the Yuba County District Attorney’s Office, Jane had an Instagram account that clearly identified her as a “10-year-old girl who loves to sing and dance.” The account also indicated that it was monitored by a parent. Around midnight on June 19, 2023, 32-year-old Christopher Ryan Brown began following Jane’s account.

Jane’s mother noticed that Brown was a copycat of her daughter. Pretending to be Jane, she texted Brown “hello.” Believing he was communicating with 10-year-old Jane, Brown asked her if she wanted to have sex and repeatedly asked her to send him nude photos, prosecutors allege.

The case was investigated by the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department. When deputies went to arrest Brown at his home on Aug. 11, 2023, they said he jumped naked out of a back window and led law enforcement on a 10-minute foot chase through alleys and yards before he was arrested.

On Friday, a jury found Brown guilty of the charges.

“This case should remind us all that there are men on the Internet who want to take advantage of our children,” said Yuba County District Attorney Clint Curry. “I am very grateful that Mr. Brown’s efforts to obtain nude photos of a 10-year-old girl were thwarted by the girl’s mother and law enforcement.”

The verdict will be delivered on October 28 at 1:30 p.m. Brown is expected to be sentenced in the current case and for an unrelated domestic violence offense. He faces a maximum penalty of four years and four months in prison.
