Police rescued 5-month-old baby within hours of kidnapping; 3 Arrested

Thane: Police in the city of Thane in Maharashtra rescued a five-month-old baby boy within hours of his abduction and arrested three people on Saturday, an official said.

The infant was abducted from Rabodi Bridge, where he was sleeping with his mother, on Friday evening, an official said.

The case has been registered

The Thane Nagar police have registered a case under section 137 (kidnapping) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and initiated an investigation, he added.

Relying on CCTV footage of the area and technical data, the police zeroed in on the accused and rescued the child within four hours of the abduction, the official said.

About the accused

The accused have been identified as Javed Ajmat Ali Nhavi (35), Jayshree Yakub Naik (45) and Surekha Rajesh Khandagle (34), he said.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Nhavi had lost his wife and child several years ago and was living with one of the accused, who was a widow, the official said, adding that further investigation was ongoing.
