Son Heung-min’s father was found guilty of “violating child custody laws” after abusing young players at his soccer academy.

Son Woong-jun was one of three coaches indicted in August after being accused of physically and verbally abusing young players at Son Football Academy in South Korea.

A South Korean court found the three guilty and ordered them to pay a fine of 3 million won (£1,683) and complete a 40-hour treatment program for child abuse.

Woong-jung, 62, denied any wrongdoing but issued an apology in which he said he would review coaching methods at his academy.

The allegations were initially investigated in March after a parent of one of the children attending the academy approached police with concerns.

They claimed their son suffered injuries to his thigh area and required two weeks of treatment after Heung-yun hit him with a corner flag at a training camp in Okinawa, Japan, in March this year.

The boy’s parents also claim that Woong-jung hurled profanities at players for making mistakes during those sessions.
