Two men arrested after illegal tablets worth almost €2 million were confiscated in Dublin – The Irish Times

Two men have been arrested after An Garda Síochána in Dublin seized tablets worth €1.976 million.

A number of planned searches were carried out on Friday as part of an operation targeting the main supply line for illegal tablets into Dublin city centre.

More than 10,000 Zopiclone and Alprazolam tablets worth €20,000 were recovered from a car stopped and searched in south Dublin.

A number of other searches were then carried out across Dublin.

Around 965,000 Zopiclone and Alprazolam tablets worth around €1.93 million were recovered from the company’s premises in south Dublin.

During a search of a premises in the city center, over 13,000 Zopiclone and Alprazolam tablets worth over EUR 26,000 were found.

Two further searches in Dublin’s west and south resulted in the recovery of approximately €4,500 in cash and evidence relating to drug dealing across the region. The total value of the recovered drugs is EUR 1,976,000.

The two arrested men, aged 30 and 50, were held at separate police stations under section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

A 30-year-old man has been charged and is scheduled to appear in court in Dublin on Saturday evening.

“This significant seizure of illicit drugs by the Dublin Crime Response Team took place as part of an ongoing investigation to tackle the sale and supply of drugs on the streets in Dublin city center and as part of Operation Citizen,” said Chief Inspector Patrick McMenamin.

“This investigation has disrupted a major drug supply line to the city center and demonstrates An Garda Síochána’s commitment to keeping people safe and disrupting the criminal activities of those who cause harm and distress in our communities.”
