The Hisense U8N was the most popular Prime Day TV deal – that’s why everyone wants it

It’s a beautiful thing when one of the best TVs of the year suffers a monumental price cut, and that’s exactly what happened this week to the award-winning Hisense U8N during October’s Amazon Prime Day event.

We thought this TV was a hit when the 65-inch version cost $1,499, but now the 65-inch Hisense U8N can be purchased on Amazon for just $997. In fact, you can still get a crazy good deal on any of the four sizes in the U8N series.

Even more surprising than the size of the initial Prime Day discount is the fact that the deal remained active days later. It’s like someone forgot to turn off the sales switch at the end of Prime Day.

We’re definitely not complaining though.

Why is this one of the best TVs of 2024?

When we tested this TV as part of our full Hisense U8N review, it set a new standard for the brightness of Mini-LED TVs in our lab. If you buy a 65-inch or larger TV, peak brightness well exceeds 3,000 nits when displaying HDR highlights, which means small, concentrated areas of brightness (like sunlight bouncing off the ocean’s surface) reach levels achieved by most TVs don’t come closer.

The 55-inch U8N doesn’t offer quite as much brightness (it’s advertised as only reaching 1,500 nits due to fewer dimming zones), but it’s bright enough for a Mini-LED TV with impressive local dimming.

In addition to being able to showcase your most important moments, the U8N also delivers very high average image brightness in both SDR and HDR. This means that, on average, the entire image is bright enough to maintain even the brightest living spaces.

The Hisense U8N offers one of the best sets of on-board speakers I’ve tested this year.

I suspect that a large number of people who have already taken advantage of this discount have done so due to the impressive array of upgrades for U8N games. It’s not as comprehensive a set of tools as you’ll find on a much more expensive TV, but it’s sufficient for most gamers, both casual and competitive.

In terms of sound, the Hisense U8N offers one of the best sets of onboard speakers I’ve tested this year. I usually recommend people pair their TV with one of the best soundbars in its price range. The U8N’s internal speakers (and built-in subwoofer) rumble enough that I honestly think most people could drive without a soundbar.

How long will this agreement be valid?

When you detail the U8N’s benefits – bright display, impressive contrast control, Dolby Vision support, and gaming engagement – it’s really no surprise that our readers jumped on this current sale. Deep discounts are an especially good way to save big on our favorite big screen TV, as the U8N is our current pick for the best 85-inch TV AND best 75 inch TV.

Of course, no TV is perfect, and the bad news is that Hisense cut corners by only offering a pair of gaming-optimized HDMI 2.1 inputs (out of four total), but it did so responsibly by designating one of the 2.0 inputs as a dedicated port eARC of the U8N device. This is important for people with two game consoles and a soundbar, as it frees up one of the more optimized gaming inputs.

This is where I usually remind people that the deal usually only lasts as long as the sales event, but Prime Day is already over, so time is especially of the essence here. The discount can be withdrawn at any time, so I advise you to act quickly.

That being said, Black Friday 2024 is just around the corner, and with it comes a whole host of new TV deals. We’ll be there to cover their livestream, so be sure to check back in November.
