Swimmer rescued at Kenmare Pier | Radio Kerry

A swimmer was rescued after getting into difficulties in South Kerry.

The woman was part of a Sunday swimming group and got into trouble at Kenmare Pier when she was swept away by the current.

Members of the swimming group raised the alarm at 10:24 this morning.

The Valentia Coast Guard sent a pan-pan transmission as the woman was carried towards the Old Ladies Bridge.

A local boat responded to the transmission, but the woman was rescued by swimmers.

At 10.41 a.m. Gardai notified Valencia Coastguard that the woman had been rescued and was safe.

GardaĆ­, fire brigade, Derrynane Inshore Rescue and an ambulance were on standby or at the scene, and rescue helicopter 115 from Shannon was stopped.
