The Cure have almost completed another new album

With the release of The Cure’s new album, Songs of a Lost WorldOn November 1, frontman Robert Smith commented on the prospect of releasing another album in the near future.

A teaser for The Cure’s upcoming album, two singles have already been released: “Alone” and “A Fragile Thing”, which have increased anticipation for the upcoming release. Before it was made official last month, Smith had been discussing the project multiple times over the past five years before it was delayed due to tours and the Covid-19 pandemic.

Therefore, his encouraging comments about The Cure’s next new album should be taken with a pinch of salt at this early stage. Nevertheless, it’s a positive sign that Smith is already looking to the future.

Songs of a Lost World is The Cure’s first album since 2008’s 4:13. However, in a new interview with Matt Everitt (via NME) Smith revealed that the band worked consistently through this barren period, explaining: “The demo for the oldest song on this album was made in 2010.”

However, it wasn’t until 2019 that The Cure really started working Songs of a Lost World. Smith told the BBC 6 Music presenter: “It’s surprising but we recorded about 25 or 26 songs in 2019. We recorded three albums in 2019; this has always been a problem. I tried to finish three albums. After waiting for so long, I thought, “Let’s just bust out Cure albums every few months!” All in hindsight, you think, “Really? I could do it so much better.”

Elaborating on his plan to release two more albums after his upcoming LP, Smith said, “It’s going to work this time. Having finished this one, the second one is practically finished. The third one is a little more difficult because, well, if we get that far… By the third album, do you know what I mean? I just can’t help myself.

As history has taught us, Smith has a tendency to get ahead of himself, and his plans for The Cure depend on chance. Therefore, in all likelihood, the next Songs of a Lost World album won’t be released for “a few months” even though it’s “virtually completed,” but it looks like another agonizing 16-year wait isn’t an option either.

How The Cure almost broke up in 2018

Although Smith remains focused on The Cure, he recently revealed that he planned to retire the band in 2018.

“I thought the Hyde Park show was going to be it, I thought it was the end of The Cure. I didn’t plan it, but I had a strange feeling that this would be it. But it was a great day and such a great response, I loved it and we received a flood of offers to headline every major European festival. “Do you want to play Glastonbury?” So I thought maybe this isn’t the right time to stop,” he said Uncut.

Smith plans to continue working on The Cure for at least the next five years. However, he confessed “Times”. that this may change in 2029 when he turns 70, noting: “In 2029 I will be 70 years old. And that’s it, that’s really it. If I get this far, that’s it.
