Why Arsenal boss Arteta will be concerned about the disciplinary sanctions applied to David Raya

Arsenal have had numerous run-ins with officials this season.

Mikel Arteta has been criticized at times for some of the tactics used by his Arsenal team.

There have already been several controversies surrounding the Gunners and their time-wasting antics this season. Declan Rice and Leandro Trossard were sent off due to delayed restarts.

Former referee Dermot Gallagher sided with Rice in his dismissal and recently believed Trossard was also to blame.

It’s clear that PGMOL has been tough on time-wasting and stalling tactics this season, and Arsenal have been hurt by this on more than one occasion.

Manchester City defender John Stones also branded Arsenal “dirty” for the way Arteta’s side lined up in the second half against the reigning champions at the Etihad Stadium after Trossard was given his marching orders.

Regardless of his personal feelings on how to handle these issues, Arteta needs to curb his players’ behavior because the referees have clearly drawn a line in the sand and Arsenal need to get out of the habit of crossing it.

David Raya’s booking frustrates Mikel Arteta

Arteta will certainly send a strong message to his players not to overdo it with time-wasting methods.

However, David Raya did exactly that while on international duty. The goalkeeper was shown a yellow card for running out of time as Spain won 1-0 against Denmark on Saturday.

While the scorer was not guilty of this offense while representing the north London club, Arteta must ensure it does not become a habit that could creep into his game at club level.

Arsenal have already suffered an injury crisis this season and the last thing Arteta needs is more suspensions to deal with.

Arsenal must show maturity

It seems that the Gunners will once again decide on winning the championship this season, and at times they will find themselves under enormous pressure and scrutiny.

There will be frustrations and setbacks along the way, but it is important that Arteta and his players keep their heads.

This mastery starts with staying on the right side of the judges.
