Distracted Mike De Decker almost forgets about trophy after stunning World Grand Prix Darts final over Luke Humphries

MIKE De Decker caused a shock by beating Luke Humphries in an impressive World Grand Prix final.

And the Belgian was so surprised that he almost forgot to collect the trophy.

After the competition, the 28-year-old received applause from fans at the Mattioli Arena in Leicester.

As his song “Three Little Birds” by Bob Marley continued to play, the crowd sang along and De Decker danced on stage.

But behind him, Master of Ceremonies John McDonald waited patiently to present him with the trophy.

De Decker finally called McDonald and took the trophy from him and showed it to the crowd.

Earlier, De Decker pulled off the most astonishing upset by beating Humphries 6-4 in a thrilling match.

This was the first major title won with a shot of 100-1, which earned him a jackpot of £120,000.

He admitted: “It’s an amazing feeling. Oh my God, I’m thrilled.

“I was happy with my performances this week, but this topped it all off.

“The way Luke has been playing since last year. As someone who beat him in the final and won the trophy, I have no words. I’m so happy.

“I was cool in patches. I was really nervous and then I calmed down. But I did it. He’s such a nice person.”

Humphries, who took home £60,000, said: “I’m obviously upset to lose. I’m very proud of Mike, he showed so much of the bottle. “

Incredibly, his success saw De Decker move up 12 places in the world rankings to a career-high ranking of 24th in the world.
