A Longford man who admitted damaging a pub door has benefited from the Probation Act

A man who caused €500 worth of damage to a pub’s front door has been placed under a probation order.

Joseph Dunne (53), 10 Padraic Colum Heights, Longford previously pleaded guilty to section 3 assault and damaging the front door of Andy Byrne’s pub in Ballymahon Street, Longford on July 29, 2021.

Defending, Frank Gearty told Judge Bernadette Owens his client was €50 short when the order was made in May 2023, but has now paid full compensation.

Sergeant Conor McShane said there had been no Garda attention to the accused since the incident.

The court found that Dunne had been convicted five times before.

Gearty said his client was doing quite well these days and that in terms of his personal life he had stabilized and was behaving appropriately.

Judge Owens noted that compensation had been paid and decided to award Mr Dunne the benefits of the Probation Act.
