LOUISVILLE, Ky. – An Indiana man was found guilty of killing a Nickerson, Kansas, man and injuring his family in Louisville, Kentucky, in 2022.

Court documents detailing his criminal history show Michael Hurley, 35, was on probation in Indiana on drug-related charges.

He admitted to the officers that before the accident that took place on July 5, 2022, he had been taking drugs, which resulted in fatally injuring Trey Jones and seriously injuring Amy and Ava Jones. On Monday, Hurley was convicted of one count of murder, three counts of assault and one count of driving under the influence. According to the verdict, he faces up to 70 years in prison.

Ava Jones remains on scholarship to the University of Iowa, although she announced this spring that she no longer intends to return to basketball.
