Two waka ama paddlers were rescued in Rotorua today – the third incident involving kayakers or paddlers in recent days.

The organization said in a statement that coastguard volunteers from Rotorua Lakes rescued a pair of waka ama from Mokoia island this morning.

The Coastguard was notified at around 8.30am that two paddlers were missing and were last seen off the western shore of Lake Rotorua.

Five volunteers aboard Rotorua Rescue began a search near Ngongotahā before police confirmed both paddlers had made it safely to Mokoia Island.

The Coast Guard picked up the couple and brought them to shore.
