A Great Dane who doesn’t understand his size makes friends with a little kitten: “Fate”

The Great Dane and kitten duo showed the world that best friends can come in different shapes and sizes, and their unexpected bond delighted Internet users.

Dog owners Samantha and Annaleise Kildow from New York weren’t sure how their Great Dane named Finn would react to the arrival of a kitten in their home. As it turned out, they really had nothing to worry about.

The Kildows rescued a kitten named Art, now 8 weeks old, after he was found in a downpour and abandoned by his mother – and gave him a loving forever home.

The couple initially had reservations about how 5-year-old Finn would interact with the tiny kitten, Samantha Kildow said Newsweek they were afraid that he might think that Art was a squirrel “that he loved to chase.” They monitored the pair’s interactions early on, but it was clear from the start that Finn knew he had to be very gentle with his new sibling.

“The moment we laid eyes on Art, we knew he was meant to be part of our family. It was like fate,” Kildow said. “After receiving approval, we counted down the days to bring him home and a few days later he was ours. Life hasn’t been the same since then and we couldn’t be more grateful that we found him.

“We already have one cat, so we knew Finn would eventually be fine with it. Their friendship began to form just days after Art’s capture. She loves Finn and always tries to cuddle him whenever she can.”

Since Art is still very young, he is full of energy and spends half the day running and getting into mischief. But once he’s dealt with the chaos, he’ll usually find his Great Dane brother and they’ll snuggle up together for a nap.

Kildow shared an adorable TikTok clip of Finn bonding with his new sibling on @finnthebigman. In the video you can see the huge “cow dog” slowly approaching Art and behaving very calmly towards the tiny kitten. In fact, Finn is even happy to let his cat brother catch him and try to play with him, then gives up his ear “to use as a blanket” since Art is much smaller than him.

Since the video was shared on October 6, it has delighted Internet users, gaining over 2.2 million views and over 130,600 likes on TikTok.

Finn certainly welcomed Art into the family with open arms, and their owners happily watched their growing friendship. – said Samantha Kildow Newsweek that they love watching the couple “cuddle” together at home, and the size difference between them really doesn’t seem to be a problem.

“Finn is a gentle giant with all the animals, especially his brother. He has no idea that there is a difference in size. He thinks he only weighs 10 pounds,” she joked.

Of course, Art isn’t Finn’s only friend, as the Kildows also have two other dogs and another cat at home, and he loves them all. This is a common characteristic of Great Danes, as the American Kennel Club suggests that they are very attached to their family and can get along well with other dogs and children.
