Former New York Mets GM talks about how the Blue Jays almost traded for Francisco

A few days ago, we wrote about how New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor was almost acquired by the Toronto Blue Jays in 2021.

If you remember, Lindor was traded from the Cleveland Guardians to the Mets prior to the 2021 season. Well, the other day on social media, former Mets GM Zack Scott said that the Blue Jays had an offer on the table that was almost accepted by Cleveland.

Scott then went to Sportsnet 590 the Fan in Toronto and detailed the discussion.

According to Scott, the Blue Jays did nothing wrong. It just sounds like the Guardians like the player package the Mets are offering. Ultimately, the Guardians signed goaltenders Andres Gimenez and Amed Rosario, as well as prospects Josh Wolf and Isaiah Greene. Gimenez continues to be an integral part of the Guardians lineup.

He’s part of a group that Cleveland is currently just one win away from in the ALCS.

As for Lindor, he is one of the best players in baseball, having spent 10 years in the big leagues with the Guardians and Mets. He is a four-time All-Star, three-time Silver Slugger and two-time Gold Glover. He just hit a grand slam to send the Mets to the NLCS on Wednesday.

I wonder what would have happened if Lindor had joined the Blue Jays instead of New York. For example, would Bo Bichette still be in Toronto or would he be considered? Would Toronto actually win a playoff game in recent memory? They haven’t won a playoff game since 2016.
