Violence in Bahrain: A 22-year-old youth was shot dead on Sunday during a communal fight in a village in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district over the playing of music during a procession, police said. About half a dozen other people were injured by stone pelting and shooting.

Ram Gopal Mishra, a native of Rehua Mansoor village, who was walking with the group, was shot dead. According to one of the family members, he was taken to hospital, where he died during treatment.

After the murder, the area was full of social tensions. Similar processions were canceled in Fakharpur city and several other places.

UP CM on Bahraich incident

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath condemned the violence, stating that those responsible would be brought to justice. The Prime Minister emphasized that the perpetrators would not be spared. The incident took place during a procession at Mahrajganj Bazar in Mansoor village, where an idol of Goddess Durga was being carried for immersion.

CM Yogi instructed the officials to identify the miscreants and take stringent action.

He, however, directed the administration: “The immersion of the idol must continue. Communicate with religious organizations and perform idol immersion on time.”

He also directed the police to deploy manpower at the immersion sites. Police were sent to the village. “We guarantee everyone’s safety, administration and police officers should be present on site. “Identify those whose negligence caused the incident and action will be taken,” he added.

SP suspended

Following the riots during the immersion of the idol in Bahraich, the head of Hardi police station, SK Verma, was suspended from duty. Mahsi Outpost manager Shiv Kumar has also been suspended.

The Superintendent of Police (SP) initiated proceedings against the police officers who were negligent during the incident.
